U13 Kids Hockey
Hockey is a wonderful sport for kids of all ages, but especially those at an early age who are looking to gain their first experiences in team sport. Around the country, thousands of parents choose hockey as a sport for their kids because:
- Boys and girls can play together
- It's inexpensive to kit-out and equip
- It teaches fundamental hand-eye co-ordination, skill, speed and agility
- It is a team sport and introduces crucial team skills and a sharing ethos to kids
- It is relatively safe and injury free
- It is a sport that is clean from drugs, foul language and hooliganism
- It is easy to play to a level where kids can REALLY enjoy themselves!
Many clubs run hockey programmes for U13 kids, often on a Saturday morning or early afternoon. At this level, the sport is totally geared around participation and enjoyment .
Different variations of the sport are employed at U13 level so kids who haven't played before can pick up a stick and pick up the game quickly and easily.
Variations include ‘ Quad Hockey' , which is a 4-on-4 version of the sport and ‘ Mini-Hockey ', which is 6-a-side with rule changes that make it quick and easy to play. These variations on the game mean kids can enjoy the sport on any surface of any size. They don't even necessarily need a hockey pitch to play and enjoy themselves!
Many hockey clubs have vibrant under-age programmes that are the perfect way to introduce your child to new friends, new skills and important life training in teamwork, volunteerism and community spirit.
