Organisation Structure
In December 2004, the Irish Hockey Association radically reformed its Constitution to support the development of its Four Year Strategic Plan and provide an improved system of governance to support the appointment of its new Chief Executive. The pre-existing 24-person Council was replaced with a nine member Management Board. With the President fulfilling a figurehead role to the sport, this smaller Board allows for faster and more responsive decision making and more effective meaningful progress in the development of the sport.
The IHA appointed its first Chief Executive in November 2004, as part of this change in governance structure. The Chief Executive reports directly to the Board and is responsible for the overall management and development of the sport of hockey in Ireland, as prescribed by the Management Board, and in particular for the implementation of the IHA's Four Year Strategic Plan.
The Chief Executive is supported by a small professional team at the IHA office in Dublin, and by three Standing Committees, that have replaced the committee structure that existed pre-December 2004. It is through these committees, the sub committees that underlie them and the professional IHA office that the sport of hockey is managed in Ireland, under the direction of the Chief Executive and, in turn, at a strategic level by the Management Board.
