Management Board
The Management Board is responsible for strategically managing the overall development of the sport of hockey in Ireland. This includes setting policy and strategy and directing the Chief Executive in all matters relating the sport's development and well-being. This includes competitions, national teams, coaching, umpires, performance, marketing, promotion and development issues. The Board is required to meet a minimum of six times a year and is comprised of the following individuals.
Dennis Millar
Chairman
Dennis has been involved in hockey since the 1960s, as both player and administrator. In his early career he played for and captained Cookstown and also had a spell as Club Chairman. During his time as player, Cookstown made their first entry into senior hockey in Ulster. After leaving Cookstown, he played at junior level for Northern Ireland Civil Service. In the recent past, he served as Chair of NICS Men’s Hockey Club, before relinquishing that post to become Ulster Branch Honorary Secretary. Dennis was involved in administration of other sports for about 6 years as Vice Chair of the NICS Sports Association which governs sport in the NI Civil Service throughout Ulster. He also served 6 years as Chair of the NICS Social Club. In his spare time, Dennis likes to go walking, reads a lot and does challenging crosswords.

Julie Beamish
Finance Officer
Julie has been involved in hockey since the age of 5 playing in primary school, secondary school, Diocesan Hockey Club and Avoca Hockey Club. When not playing hockey Julie played cricket at underage level for Ireland. Having hung up the playing skirt she took up coaching with Avoca Hockey Club until the draw of the whistle enticed her into umpiring! She has been involved in umpiring ever since both domestically and internationally. Having retired from international umpiring in 2009 she took on the role of secretary of the IHUA and is currently Chair of the MHUA and on the Management Board of the Munster Branch. Julie is a Chartered Accountant and runs her own accountancy practice in Cork city.

Doreen Howe
Board Member
Doreen is a founder member of Suttonians Hockey Club, on Dublin's north side and was club Secretary for six years. She is the club's Honorary Treasurer, having previously held the positions of Captain and President and is an Honorary Life Member. She attended Santa Sabina Sutton and learned her hockey there. Doreen was Honorary Treasurer of the Leinster Ladies Hockey Union for nine years and was President of the Union for the period 1996-1999. During this time, she also served on the Irish Ladies Hockey Union. She had charge of the Leinster Women's Branch centenary celebrations in 2001 and was made an Honorary Life Member and also served as Honorary Treasurer for the 2002/03 year. She has been in charge of Media information for Fixtures and Results for Divisions 1 and 2 since 1997. She resigned from the LLHU Council in 2006. During the 8th Women’s World Cup in Dublin 1994 and the Men’s European Cup 1995 she was in charge of the Information Desk. She was the Volunteer Co-Ordinator for the Women’s European Cup in 2005 sourcing and managing the volunteers and again sourced the volunteers and set up their management for the Boy’s U16 European Cup in 2006. She has stood on many a gate for both the LLHU and the IHA.Doreen was first elected to IHA Management in 2002 and was elected to the IHA Management Board in December 2004.
Doreen was elected vice President in 2006 and President in 2008 and elected as Board Member May 2010 and that received the award of Ambassador for Sport for the 2010 Dublin European Capital of Sport.

Fintan Butler
Board Member
Fintan has been involved in hockey for over 50 years, having played with Lorraine Hockey Club, is a member of St. Brendan’s Phoenix Park Hockey Club. He has coached at Schools, Ladies and Men’s senior club level, both indoor and outdoor. He has also coached the Leinster Ladies senior team, the Irish under 18 team and the Irish Universities. He was a tutor on a number of courses and seminars. He was a member of the Leinster Branch Executive and was on sub-committees for Development, Indoor Hockey and Coaching. He is also President of Civil Service Cricket Club.

Brian Caruth
Board Member
Brian has been involved in hockey since the 1970's as a player, coach , manager, administrator & supporter.
He is a life member of Collegians HC (now Belfast Harlequins ) & was the first non rugby President of the overall
Collegians Club. He was 1st XI goalkeeper but also played indoor hockey as a full back and his 'claim to fame' was
playing for Ulster Indoor B. He was an integral part of 1980's social hockey with ' Team Gordons'.
As the Coach of Collegians Ladies HC for 7 seasons - the Club went from 2 to 6 teams - winning 16 trophies
throughout the club.
He is now involved with Annadale HC as Club Tres & is a Board member of Ulster Hockey. He is also Ulster Men's
U21 & N Ireland University Manager. He is an club elected member of the IHL committee.
Outside Hockey he has represented Ireland in Bowls & enjoys travelling & watching sport (esp in warmer climates )

Tom Pomphrett

Tom first became interested in Hockey when his two daughters started to play in the mid 1980s since the girls left school Tom has become increasingly involved in club affairs with Loreto Hockey Club in activities including coaching at the lower team levels, team management, Videowork for the 1st team and fund raising. Tom has retired since June 2009 from the Labour relations Commission. During his career in that organisation he has been extensively involved in dispute resolution and over the last 10 years has been heavily involved in change management in medium and large organisations. During schoolyears and up to his mid thirties Tom was actively involved in many sports. He played Gaelic Football, Hurling, Basketball, and Soccer but his main love was Rugby.

Maureen Smyth
Board Member
Maureen started playing hockey in St. Mary's Secondary School, Glasnevin. She abandoned the game for a few years and was enticed back to active participation in Maryfield Club. She was involved in the amalgamation of Maryfield with Glasnevin HC to form Botanic. She has been involved in the administration of this club since its formation. She also plays her part as club umpire and as a player, having retreated as far as sweeper. She has served on the Council of the Leinster Ladies Hockey Union as a club representative and held the position of League Secretary. Maureen was President of the LLHU from 2005 to 2008.

Marietta Lammey
Board Member
Marietta Lammey has been involved in hockey for many years playing for Larne Grammar School, Larne Ladies, Stranmillis College, Instonians Ladies and North Down Ladies.
On retiring from playing senior hockey, she coached North Down Ladies to the final of the Ulster Shield and the semi final of the Irish Senior Cup. During past seasons she has umpired and coached junior players for North Down. She has also turned out for the club veterans until well into her 50’s when her children removed her hockey stick.
She also coached the Ulster Junior Ladies squad to success in the inter provincials.
In recent years she has been President of the Ulster Women’s Hockey Union, a member of the Council and Chair of the Development Committee. She was a member of the amalgamation committee charged with the formation of the Ulster Hockey Union and is currently Vice Chair of the Management Committee. She was also involved in the preparation of the Ulster Strategic Plan which provides the basis for hockey in the province
Seamus Butler

Seamus has been involved in Hockey since early 1960 as a player with Glenanne,playing on the 1st X1 till the mid 1970's and then on various lower teams. Seamus became interested in administration,first as Match Secretary and then Chairman of Mens Hockey section. He was very involved in the clubs fund raising and development program and was club President when Glenannes artificial pitch was opened by President Mary Robinson in 1991.Since then Glenanne has won honours at Provincial,National and European level,including National Club Championship,Irish Senior Cup(3 times),Irish Junior Cup and European Club Trophy(2008) ,five Leinster Senior League titles,and five Leinster Senior Cup wins .Their Junior sides have won numerous trophies in Leinster,all in a very strong and well-organised mens hockey section.Glenanne also has had outstanding success in it's Ladies section,winning Irish Junior Cup in 2008 and gaining promotion to Leinster Senior League.Since then they have consolidated their position and have become a strong performer as a Senior Club.
Seamus was a member Leinster Branch IHA Management Committee, Chairman Fixtures Committee Leinster Branch IHA,member of IHU Executive Committee (Chairman,National Indoor Hockey Committee) and member of IHA Competitions Committee.

Mr. Herbie Sharman
President

Herbie Sharman has been involved in International Hockey since the early 1990's when he took on Management of the boys’ Irish under 16's followed by a number of years as Manager of the boys’ Irish under 18's and a season as Irish under 21 Manager. He also coached the boys’ Leinster Under 18's for 5 years. Moving into administration he became Chairperson of the Irish Youth & Schools’ Committee for 10 years and since the inception of the IHA has been chairperson of the National Development Committee.
He learnt his hockey at Kingstown School, Dun Laoghaire and played SCT there and then for Trinity College and for Kilkenny men’s team when he first took up a post at Kilkenny College. He taught there until early retirement in 1997 and coached the senior boys team for 25 years.

Daphne Hall

Daphne is a native of Dundalk where she started her interest in Hockey playing for Dundalk Grammar School. Having taken a Dip.P.E through Ling College, she was head of P.E at Hafodunos Hall a boarding school for Young Ladies in North Wales.
On return to Ireland she returned to teach in Dundalk Grammar School, and started a Dundalk hockey club. On moving to Dublin Daphne was head of P.E at Rathdown School and became involved in Leinster Schools Girls hockey from 1980 as Cup Secretary and then as Treasurer. She was appointed as Chairperson on five occasions over the period from 1988 up to present. She became a member of Irish Schoolgirls Committee from 1981. She was elected onto the Irish Youth and Schools in 2000, and the Irish Competitions Committee in 2004. Daphne has over 40 years experience with school girl’s hockey and under 18 competitions at home and abroad. Daphne was made an Honorary Life Member of Leinster Hockey and then became Chair of Irish Schools and Colleges in 2007 and currently still holds this position.
