Irish Hockey Hall of Fame

What is the Irish Hockey Hall of Fame?

Irish hockey dates its origins back to the 19 th Century – a proud tradition of over 110 years. During this time, great players have made invaluable contributions to the sport and achieved outstanding success.

The Irish Hockey Hall of Fame is an institution to be inaugurated in 2006 that aims to select truly outstanding playing contributors to Irish hockey from its illustrious past and honour them in a special place in the IHA's history books. It's about recognising our past greats and ensuring they remain in the present, as role models for our players of the future.

Who will be honoured in the Irish Hockey Hall of Fame?

In its inauguration at the Irish Hockey Awards on 24 th June 2006, ten initial members of the Hall of Fame were inducted five male and five female. For each year going forward a further two players (one male, one female) will be added each year.

These players are selected by a specially developed selection committee, chaired by the immediate past president of the Irish Hockey Association, Mr John Smyth. Any player from Irish hockey's past, dating right back to the 19 th Century, is eligible for selection into the Irish Hockey Hall of Fame. An inductee must, however, have permanently retired from international hockey and must have achieved exceptional accomplishments in the game in Ireland to be considered.
