The Irish Hockey Association runs a number of social hockey initiatives around the country. The aim of these leagues is to get people back into the sport of hockey in a manner that suits their lifestyle and schedule! In nearly all cases, we are supported by the Irish Sports Council's Women In Sport initiative to do so.

Summer Social Hockey (Women's & Men's Leagues)

The Irish Hockey Association is running two 5-a-side Summer Social Hockey Leagues in the National Hockey Stadium in U.C.D. this summer - one for men and the other for women. These fun leagues are for those who want to keep active and fit over the summer months as well as play some healthy competitive matches!

The two leagues cater for both non-club members and club members (women currently playing in Leinster Divisions 4 to 14 inclusive and men currently playing in Leinster Divisions 4 to 8). Each team has a squad of 5 with a maximum of 8 players. You can sign up as a full team, with a group of friends and we’ll keep you together, or individually, and we’ll place you on a team.

The league runs from Thursday June 17th until August 5th. Matches are played every Thursday from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. The matches will be played on a third of the pitch and without goal keepers meaning lots of space with the ball and lots of goals! Teams will play two 25 minute matches on a Thursday night where points will be totalled over the 7 weeks leading to semi-finals and finals on the last night of play.

You will need shin guards (mandatory), a gum shield (recommended), runners or Astros and a bottle of water.  Sticks are provided but bring your own if you prefer. The cost is €50 per person, paid up front. Registration forms can be obtained by emailing or phoning the IHA. Forms and payment have to be received by June 10th (extended deadline).

If you want to receive more information contact the IHA on 01 716 3265 or email socialhockey@hockey.ie or check us out on facebook (search for Summer Social Hockey). Ladies Indoor Social Hockey League - Dublin

Fun indoor hockey league for female players that are interested in taking up the sport, both for the first time, or those who have experience but are not currently club members.

The league runs every Thursday evening between 7pm and 8.30pm in Wesley College, Ballinteer, Dublin 16. You can either sign up a full team yourself, sign up with some friends and we'll keep you together or we can sign you up on your own to a team!

Indoor hockey is exciting and fast paced as wooden boards are used instead of sidelines so that the ball doesn’t go out of play, which puts a greater emphasis on fitness. The league will be played without goal keepers giving everyone lots of time with the ball.

The cost is €60 for ten weeks. Indoor hockey sticks will be provided. You just need to show up with shinpads, gumshield (recommended), a bottle of water and plenty of energy!!

Third Level Social Hockey Leagues

Building on the success of last year’s University Ladies Social Hockey Leagues in which over 100 students took part, Irish Hockey is re-launching the leagues. The aim of the leagues is to cater for players that choose not to join a club after they leave school but want to stay involved in the sport. The leagues run on an 8 week format both before and after Christmas. Games are played across the pitch on a 6 versus 6 format. The emphasis is on fitness with teams playing at least 3 games in each session. There are also a number of social events that take place such as the University Social League Tournament that brings together all universities that have social leagues.
