social hockey

Hockey 4 Life reflects the high numbers of recreational players within our sport – those players that are involved because of the many benefits our sport provides and not because they aspire to perform at an elite level. This includes the many players that take part in hockey as ‘social players’ outside of the standard club structure.

The Irish Hockey Association runs a number of social hockey initiatives around the country. The aim of these leagues is to get people back into the sport of hockey in a manner that suits their lifestyle and schedule! In nearly all cases, we are supported by the Irish Sports Council's Women In Sport initiative to do so.

One night only - Ladies Indoor Hockey Tournament

The IHA is running an indoor tournament on November 17th in Wesley College for the usual indoor suspects! Details are as follows:

Start: 7.30pm

Finish: 10.15pm

Cost: €5 per person (paid on the night)

Format: 5 a-side (no keepers)

All players will be organised into teams in advance and a schedule sent out. The tournament is open to non-club members and club members (playing in Leinster Divisions 4 to 13 inclusive).

If you’re interested in taking part, simply email your name and your team mates names to fiona.mills@hockey.ie.

Ladies Indoor Social Hockey League

The Ladies Indoor Social Hockey League is a fun indoor hockey league for female players that are interested in taking up the sport, both for the first time, or those who have experience but are not currently club members.

You can either sign up a full team yourself, sign up with some friends and we'll keep you together or we can sign you up to a team! Each team has a maximum of 8 players. The cost of the league is €60 for ten weeks. Indoor hockey sticks will be provided. You just need to show up with shin pads, gum shield (recommended), a bottle of water and plenty of energy!! For further details, check out our Frequently Asked Questions.

Places are limited and are only secured upon payment. A copy of our Terms & Conditions are available to download here. If you've any questions about the above, don't hesitate to get in touch with Irish Hockey on 01 7163265 or email socialhockey@hockey.ie.

Ladies Summer Social Hockey

The Irish Hockey Association runs Ladies Summer Social Hockey in Dublin each year. It’s for women with the emphasis on having fun whilst playing hockey and staying fit. The league is ideal for hockey club members who want to keep active and fit during the summer. However, as the league is open to non-club members, it is also perfect for anyone who would like to get back into playing the sport in a fun, friendly environment.

Ladies Summer Social Hockey is run on a 5 a-side league basis with maximum squads of 8. Both non-club members and club members (women playing in Leinster Divisions 4 to 14 inclusive) take part. This is a great chance for players to have fun and keep fit over the summer months while playing some healthy competitive hockey! A copy of the rules of play are available to download here.

Summer Social Hockey generally runs between June and July each year for 8 weeks in total. Check back to this page for more details closer to the time.

Munster / Connacht

Currently the IHA do not run Social Hockey Leagues in Munster or Connacht and are currently reviewing opportunities to set up social hockey structures in these areas.
