About The Men's Club Championships
The Men's Club Championships is the climax of the men's domestic hockey season in Ireland and pits the top clubs in the 32 counties of Ireland against each other with the prize of All-Ireland Club Champions and European Club Championship qualification at stake.
The tournament is played following the conclusion of the provincial leagues, from which the competing teams qualify. The teams who finish in the top three of the Ulster Premier League and Leinster Division One qualify, together with the top two clubs from Munster's Division One. In the past, the eight clubs have been reduced to four through a two-legged quarter-final round, with the final four teams competing in a round-robin play-off over a long weekend to establish Ireland's top men's club team for that year.
For 2006, the tournament has been reformed, with the quarter-final round being removed, allowing qualification of all eight teams into the Club Championships Finals. The resultant eight-team tournament with two pools of four competing in round-robin format and the top two teams from each pool playing off in a semi final and final.
