IHL Finals - Match Report
Hermes v's Railway Union

Hermes 0 (0) - Railway Union  1 (0) Zara Delaney 42minutes op

Railway Union and Hermes squared up today in Lisnagarvey in the first of the Electric Ireland Semi Finals taking place today. Hermes the only ladies semi-finalist today yet to claim the title in the new format fell by just one goal.

The match started off with much of the play taking place between the two midfields. The first circle entry came to Emma Smyth but a solid looking Hermes defence cleaned up well and moments later international Lisa Jacob had a golden chance with a one on one but O’Flanagan in goals closed down the chance.

Railway Union continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter with good work by Alex Speers up front supported well by Emma Smyth. Railway’s pressure almost paid off when Speers set up Jean McDonnell for a one on one but the Hermes post kept the effort out, and half time saw both sides all square at 0-0.

Railway finally broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Zara Delaney got a touch at close range to secure the only goal of the game. Hermes almost equalised when a great ball in set up McGilp for the deflection but her effort just didn’t hop high enough to clear the sliding keeper.

Hermes upped the pace in the fourth quarter hunting for a goal and had a golden chance winning the only short corner of the game. Audrey O’Flynn, the recent top goal scorer from the Olympic Qualifiers in Belgium, lined up for her drag flick, the initial shot was saved but the ball despite falling kindly to Hermes was not put away.

Railway Union now progress to play either Loreto or Pegasus who play in the second semi final at 12.30
